Lionel Messi and his team mates lost a second major final in a space of a year as Jorge Sampaoli's side made history by winning in Santiago. Before the Copa final, Sergio Aguero said, if this golden generation of Argentine players fails to win a trophy, they will regret it for the rest of their lives. Lionel Messi, Angel Di Maria and others also echoed those words later but it was beyond them again on saturday just last the last World Cup.
Last year's World Cup in Brazil was a wonderful opportunity with Messi at a peak age (27) and the stadium filled with Argentine fans, it looked like it may be their moment. Ultimately, however, they missed out and the current Copa was suppose to bring some sort of redemption but it didn't.
